MEET LINDSAY! FOUNDER & CEO OF BATCH

by IT-Geeks

Tell us about your typical day as CEO of Batch.

I try to begin every morning with cuddles from my dog, Ralphie. Eventually he needs his breakfast, so downstairs we go. This is always followed by our neighborhood walk together. I start my Monday’s with a strength-training session. Once or twice a week, I’ll ride my Peloton in the morning. I’m often able to get an hour or two of work done from home, which is a productive way to start the day.

Batch opens at 11:00 am on weekdays, so I usually arrive in our showroom between 10:30 and 11:30 am. Once a week, I try to pick up fresh juice for the Batch team. My days are a mix of phone calls with the brands we partner with, and meetings with employees. I often find myself visiting prospective showcase locations or traveling to talk with investors. I’m usually with our team until we close at 7:00 pm. Once or twice a week we’ll have evening events that I like to attend or assist with. I get home pretty late and I always enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine while cooking dinner.

You’ve worked with a lot of female founded brands and companies at Batch – why is that an important part of the company’s culture?

Women are such an impactful part of the economy. Millennial women will spend $5 trillion in their lives.

What has been your favorite Batch to date?

Each Batch has been so different, and they continue to get stronger from an execution standpoint. I see both the customer view, but also the production and theatrics behind the scenes. I love that we’ve continued to test new ideas for customers while building more process and intentionality into our workflow and how we get things done. I look ahead more than back, and I’m already thinking about themes for 2020 and what new places we might be by then!

How do you approach designing interiors? Where do you go for inspiration?

I love marketing e-mails and catalogs. It’s the most timely source of styled work from creative leaders at the top of their fields. I like color and pattern ideas from fashion, I take cues on context from fitness and hospitality environments, and I absolutely adore a good boutique hotel.

What advice would you give other female founders who are just starting out?

Realize that growing your business is going to require you to stretch into new skill sets every day. Given that the early days are filled with mastering so many different things, you’ll spend a lot of your time feeling mediocre at most tasks. Seeing progress can feel very difficult day by day but when you look back on a longer time horizon, it’s much easier to have perspective about your accomplishments.

Tell us about a current personal project.

I’m trying to set up an in-home studio for my creative projects. Nothing makes me as excited as stationery, craft supplies, gorgeous gift wrap, and party paraphernalia. Getting everything organized for easy access and inspiration has been a dream pursuit. I can’t wait to wake up and start my day with peppermint-rose tea, a stack of letterpress notecards, and a rainbow of colored pens. Total happiness.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I’m proud to be equal parts strategic thinker and creative visionary. It’s so fulfilling to be able to bring new Batches to life while also nurturing the business side of things. Whether it’s directing a photoshoot or running numbers on a new idea, I love that Batch brings out the best of my entrepreneurial skills and allows me to activate my artistic intuition.
