MEET ELEANOR, ASSOCIATE SALES & OPERATIONS MANAGER AT BATCH!
Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get your start at Batch?
I grew up in San Francisco and studied at Boston University. I came straight back here and went to work for my parents doing brand strategy and marketing for them. I was introduced to Batch through my parent’s business, actually, and just fell in love with the concept. The rest is history!
Can you share what a typical day looks like for you?
No day is ever typical, or boring here. I do inventory, prep for events, work with customers and brand partners on a daily basis. Our team wears many different hats, myself included, which allows for fluidity within the company.
Did you always imagine a role in retail?
My parents own a retail store here in the city, so in a way, I’ve always felt that retail has been in my blood. I think retail, especially in this setting, is taking an exciting turn. Brick and mortar stores are not a dying breed. It’s special to be a part of the “start-up” culture, while also connecting with the consumer on a retail level. My brain is always thinking about brand strategy and marketing, so I’m always looking for ways to execute my creativity through a retail lens.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve discovered working at Batch thus far?
How much work everyone does! We are a small, but mighty team. Also, not all of our customers know about the second component of our business, which is the Showcase side. Even as a newer hire, I’m always kept on my toes with all of the new projects coming our way from that.
Are there any particular brands that stand out to you this season? Why?
I’m such a huge fan of Bathing Culture. Their body wash is heavenly and made from all-natural ingredients, plus it’s biodegradable. Also, Ethic Ciders is a personal favorite because their ciders aren’t sweet, which I really like. It’s more approachable.
Based on conversations you’ve had with customers, in your opinion, what makes a brand’s story the most compelling?
Most of our brands have a social responsibility component, which is not only important to me, but our company as well. I studied brand strategy in college, so I’m very interested and connected to that side of a business. There is an intrigue and thrill when discovering a new brand, and I think that comes largely from learning about the story behind the company.
How would you describe your personal style?
When talking interior design, eclectic meets fantasyland. I love whimsical patterns- the louder, the better. I love dark walls, pops of colors and interesting patterns. In terms of my clothing, I dress pretty simply, but constantly raid my mother’s closet for vintage pieces. I prefer to buy vintage clothing and furniture over new stuff, always.
Do you have a favorite room or nook in your home? What makes it so special?
I just moved, and am still unpacking, but at my old apartment in Sausalito, my favorite spot was my dining room. I called it my “jungle room” because I had African masks hanging on the walls that my grandmother passed on to me. The room opened up onto a back deck that was very quiet and surrounded by trees. It was so peaceful.
After working at Batch, are there any new trends or styles that you’re planning to mirror in your home?
I love the minimalist but contemporary look that Batch brings to the table. The furniture is always so thoughtfully designed and hand-picked by our team here.
