HOW CAMPAIGN LIVING IS REINVENTING THE WAY CONSUMERS SHOP FOR HOME FURNITURE

by IT-Geeks

What is Campaign Living? How did the idea come to be?

We’ve thoughtfully designed our furniture to create a seamless shopping experience without sacrificing quality. Using the best materials in the business, all our furniture is customized and designed by the customer. It’s then assembled in the United States and shipped directly from the factory to the customer’s door in less than a week.

We do this by designing around a precision-built steel frame backed by a lifetime warranty. Unlike traditional upholstered furniture, our fabrics can be easily removed, both for cleaning or to swap out the covers entirely (we sell individual cover sets on our site, available in all our fabrics).

We were inspired by a Charles Eames quote: "Make the best for the most for the least.” Our founder, who previously worked at Apple and Honda, was familiar with building high-quality products using manufacturing processes very different than what’s used in the furniture industry today. He knew we could build something better, and faster, but keep it at an approachable price.

What types of furniture does Campaign create?

Campaign launched with a chair, loveseat, and sofa, and most recently added an ottoman. All Campaign pieces are modular, so as we expand our products and accessories, you’ll be able to further customize and update your piece. We’ll be adding different cushion configurations, for example, as well as new fabric materials and patterns, all of which are compatible with our current collection. We want built all Campaign pieces to evolve with you and your tastes.

What is the biggest design challenge to tackle when designing furniture?

There were three fundamental issues we noticed were wrong in the traditional furniture industry – manufacturing practices, shipping lead times and cost, and the customer experience – and we knew we could redesign all of them.

The delivery speed was just as important to us as assembly, quality, and ease of use, so we knew shipping UPS and FedEx ground was key. That’s how we can ship any product in 4-7 business days, straight from our factory in Tennessee, to anywhere in the continental U.S. As part of the customer experience, we also ship every product for free.

We also needed to source new materials, make it light enough to carry, and design no tool assembly. We constantly removed parts and created components that served multiple purposes, which led us to the steel frame, as mentioned above. We prefabricate the frame and then build to order. When an order is placed, our factory quickly boxes it up to the customer’s preferences and has it out the door in a few days.

Why was going direct to consumer an important model for Campaign?

It really is the ratio of quality to price for us. We save on the high overhead cost – like paying rent for showrooms, extra employees, shipping freight, you name it – that our competitors have to consider when pricing their goods. All of those business costs are typically baked into the cost of furniture you find in the big box and department stores.

We wanted to cut out that fat so we could offer a better quality sofa at a lower price for customers.

We understand some customers will still want to sit on a sofa before they buy it (some of our employees at Campaign feel the same way!), which is why places like Batch have been such a success for us. We also have Outposts in several cities across the country that act as showrooms for us.

Our swatch program has also been great for customers to see the fabrics in person before purchasing anything.

How easy is it to assemble Campaign furniture?

Very simple and intuitive. Take a look at this video to see for yourself!

Once Campaign furniture is built, is it easy to take apart during a move?

Absolutely. We’ve had several customers give us great feedback about the simplicity of assembly and disassembly. And it won’t break down after those moves like plywood often does. You can build it up and break it down as many times as you’d like.

What type of people and homes is Campaign Living perfect for?

Honestly, just about anyone and anywhere. We have Campaign pieces in a third floor walk-up in Brooklyn, in an A-frame cabin in Big Bear, a loft space in Atlanta, a vacation getaway outside of Austin, and of course many many apartments, condos, and homes in the Bay Area.

With our variety of fabric textures and colorways, Campaign really can fit in any type of home.
